The Dark Climb is a third person, resource-based stealth game in which you try to reach the end of a dark and dangerous map. As there is almost no light to be found in the environment, you are equipped with a light source, which you can use to lighten your immediate surroundings. This light source is directly bound to your life in the game and will slowly run out of energy, killing you once all the energy is gone. Luckily, you can regain its energy by reaching small, lit safe-havens, which are scattered across the world. The map is also inhabited by flying giant eyes, that will attack you and rapidly drain your energy, if your light draws their attention. The only way to escape is to temporarily turn off your light and run from the eyes while covered in total darkness. During these periods without any light, your energy is also continuously being consumed by the ever-present shadows around you. This means that you will have to manage your use of energy in a clever way, because the total darkness will kill you, but so will the eyes attracted by your light. Evasive, stealthy gameplay and good energy management are necessary to succeed. Your movement through the map is also not that easy, because the world is literally being torn apart by the darkness, forcing you to find your way through a fractured environment drifting in an unending void. To do so, your character has access to basic movement in the form of walking and jumping. Additionally, the game tries to produce a strong audio-sensory experience, as your fading energy supply and the dangerous inhabitants of the dark world are strongly represented by sound. The same goes for the save-havens. You should feel a sense of relief, anytime you can freely turn on your light, even if you are just a small glimmer, lost in the unending night.
